Humans can only survive a short amount of time without water because the body needs it for almost every process, including:

Without water, the body is unable to function correctly and will begin to stop working.
So what do you do if you're ever in a survival situation and have no drinking water with you? Great question, here are a few tips to help you survive!
First you'll need to find a source for water. Look for a stream or river with a steady flow. Find the highest point of the river (where the water is moving the fastest). Avoid still creeks or run off ponds, they are crawling with bacteria because of the little to no movement.
Here are a four of the best ways to make river water safer to drink: 1. LIFESTRAW Use a water filter like a LifeStraw. Protects against bacteria, parasites and microplastics, chlorine and organic chemical matter such as pesticides, herbicides and improves water taste.
2. BOIL
Boiling water makes it safe to drink in the event of some type of biological contamination. You can kill off bacteria and other organisms in a batch of water simply by bringing it a boil.
3. IODINE DROPS
Use of Iodine solution, tablets or crystals. This is an effective and more convenient method. Generally, the procedure is to add a few drops depending on what the water looks like...cloudy vs clear. The instructions will be listed on the drops when you purchase them. 4. BLEACH Disinfect water using household bleach, if you can’t boil water. Only use regular, unscented chlorine bleach products that are suitable for disinfection and sanitization as indicated on the label. Follow the EPA Guidelines below (Click on graph to read the EPA's guidelines and warnings):
